Insects and Diseases

Extensively planted in Ontario due to its ability to be highly tolerant of urban conditions. It has been thought off as the "super" tree, as there use to be very few pest or diseases that would influence this species. Due to overplanting, pest and diseases are catching up to this species. Issues include cankerstain, anthracnose (depending on cultivar), canker, etc.

Management Notes

  • Surface roots may heave pavement
  • Fruit litter may be an issue
  • Frost cracking commonly occurs
